GWS Motorsport with Fox Motorsport secured victory in their Audi R8 LMS GT4 at Portimão in the Hankook 24 hour Series European GT Championship; held over the weekend of July 7-8. This is the Team’s first victory in the GT4 class and marks a terrific performance in a sweltering 31° centigrade heat. It follows just months after they claimed second place in their debut race at Silverstone.
The Team Fox drivers – Jamie Stanley, Glenn Sherwood, Ben Clucas and Andy Perry – finished Saturday in 3rd place despite posting the fastest lap time in their class. Sunday saw solid defensive work from the Perfection Racings Ginetta G55 and the Mercedes-AMG from the QSR team, but this was not enough to stop Team Fox’s drivers from steaming by with just 45 minutes of the race left to run. Taking the chequered flag, the 5.2 litre Audi finished with a one-lap advantage in their first ever 24 hour race.
Glenn Sherwood commented: “it was a tough race – the high temperatures were challenging for both the drivers and the tyres. But our strategy together with slick pit work enabled us to secure victory in just our second outing.”
The Teams next race is at the famous Spa-Francorchamps circuit on the 12-13 October. They will be targeting another podium finish ‘on the bounce’ before the car is shipped to Dubai ready for the next race in January 2019.
